How We Study Languages
xcodeflex.com uses a structured research model based on shared application families, declared equivalence layers, and reproducible measurement practices.
Application Family
An Application Family is the fundamental unit of research. It contains everything needed to implement, verify, and compare the same software outcome across multiple programming languages.
Equivalence Layers
Equivalence is not a single property. xcodeflex.com evaluates implementations across six distinct layers, each with its own research question.
| Layer | Research Question |
|---|---|
| Functional | Do accepted inputs produce the required outputs and state changes? |
| Semantic | Are precision, ordering, null behavior, time, errors, and business rules interpreted consistently? |
| Operational | Do implementations meet comparable runtime, deployment, resilience, and recovery expectations? |
| Security | Are trust boundaries, authorization, data handling, and dependency risks understood? |
| Experiential | Do users and operators encounter comparable behavior and diagnostics? |
| Economic | Are build, run, change, and support implications understood? |
Measurement Principles
xcodeflex.com applies the following principles to every measurement activity.
- Does not rely on one overall score.
- Reports workload and environment with every measurement.
- Uses repeated observations where appropriate.
- Reports variance and anomalies.
- Separates cold-start and steady-state behavior.
- Separates language effects from framework and runtime effects.
- Reports code surface beyond lines of count.
- Treats maintainability as a first-class result.
- Dates findings and revisits them as technology changes.
AI Policy
AI may assist with specification analysis, implementation, translation, test generation, code review, and experiment orchestration. AI-generated code remains a hypothesis until it builds, passes the shared contract, survives review, and produces reproducible evidence.
AI can accelerate comparison. It cannot replace verification.
